EU Funds for Our Rights

On 8 November 2016, the European Network on Independent Living (ENIL) launched a campaign on the use of European Structural and Investment Funds (‘Structural Funds’) in the European Union (EU) Member States. The aim of the EU Funds for Our Rights Campaign is to encourage the European Commission and the Member States to improve the monitoring and complaints system, in order to ensure that Structural Funds are used to support the rights of people with disabilities, rather than restrict them.

5th May – European Independent Living Day

To commemorate 25 years of ENIL’s existence, and to celebrate our growing network, the ENIL Board decided to declare May 5th as the European Day on Independent Living. ENIL invites you to join us in celebrating and awareness raising.

ENIL Freedom Drive

The Freedom Drive is one of ENIL’s key campaigns – held every two years since 2003.  The next Freedom Drive will be held in 2019. It provides supporters of the Independent Living Movement with the unique opportunity to meet MEPs and promote human rights issues, as well to share experiences and ideas with colleagues from around Europe. Its rich programme includes the ENIL General Assembly, a conference with sessions on multiple topics, a meeting of the ENIL Youth Network and the culmination – a noisy march to the European Parliament where Freedom Drivers meet with MEPs.

Resolution against the Cuts

In 2011, ENIL launched the Alliance Against Disability Cuts (AADC). AADC brings together representatives from different DPOs.
