The European Network on Independent Living (ENIL), in cooperation with the Open Society Foundations – Mental Health Initiative, is launching the campaign “EU Funds for Our Rights”, asking for a better monitoring and complaints system for the use of European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF) in relation to deinstitutionalisation.
The event will take place in European Parliament on 8 November 2016 from 11:00-13:00, room A3H1, and is co-hosted by MEP Helga Stevens and MEP Marek Plura.
ENIL will be presenting the report ‘Working Together to Close the Gap Between Rights and Reality’ and for the first time showing the film “Here I Am” to raise awareness about institutionalisation vs. independent living. We will also be discussing how to implement the recommendations of the European Ombudsman and the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities about the need to improve the monitoring and complaints system for the use of ESIF in the EU Member States, in relation to the right to independent living.
To express interest in taking part, please e-mail Natasa Kokic, ENIL’s Campaign Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org by 20 October 2016.
