Italian Independent Living Activists’ Occupation of the Regional Government Gave Change

On Tuesday, 16th February, a group of devoted Independent Living activists from the Centre for Independent Living in Firenze-Toscana (Italy) occupied the headquarters of the Regional Parliament protesting against the budget cuts implied by the state on independent living funds for disabled people.

The group occupied the building overnight, showing force and determination which gave massive media coverage. After 22 hours the Regional Parliament unanimously passed a resolution Italian protest 1 pressing the Regional Government to reinstate the Independent Living funding which makes possible the equal life of disabled people in Italy.

Congratulations to these determined drivers for change! They demonstrated how through united, strong actions success can be achieved!
