Join ENIL 2017 Freedom Drive and Remember Our Heroes

ENIL Freedom Drive is starting in less than nine months – what has been planned so far?

The theme of the 2017 march through Brussels is Independent Living Heroes – past, present and future. It will be dedicated to the late Martin Naughton, who established the Freedom Drive as a Europe-wide campaign for the advancement of Independent Living. Other past heroes, most notably Peter Lambreghts and Debbie Jolly, will also be remembered for their great achievements within the Independent Living movement.

Please send us your suggestions for your past and present heroes – whom we can celebrate during the Freedom Drive. We plan to have placards to honour our leaders, along with their messages for change for a better world.

The Freedom Drive conference will focus on children and youth – the future of Independent Living. Topics such as ‘family support’, ‘personal assistance for children’ and ‘making the children’s voice heard’ will be on the agenda. We encourage national groups to bring young people and children with them next year, in order for their voices to be heard.

The motivational days and meetings with allies are still open, and we welcome your ideas on what you would like to discuss and whom you wish to meet! The Greek ’i-Living’ organisation already contacted ENIL with a suggestion for a workshop on how to start a Centre for Independent Living (CIL). Please contact us with your ideas, so that we can start booking meeting rooms for you. Mundo J, where the ENIL Office is located, will be one of the meeting venues. Rooms are limited, so early birds get the worm! Think of the topics you wish to discuss and debated, and we will start to plan the events. Please contact ENIL Advocacy Officer Frank Sioen at frank.sioen@enil.eu.

ENIL would also like to encourage you to book your hotels for the Freedom Drive as soon as possible. There will be other events in Brussels during the ENIL 2017 Freedom Drive and with such a high demand for hotel rooms in Brussels, prices rise quickly.
