On Sunday, 20th March, 10 wheelchair users accompanied/supported by a team of personal assistants participated in the Urban Trail in Gent. ENIL member Onafhankelijk Leven (OL) organised the participation of the wheelchair team in the trail, in order to prove that with personal assistance everything is possible – even getting through an inaccessible city such as Gent.
ENIL staff member Frank Sioen, one of the wheelchair users participating in the trail, described his experience as follows: “It was super good fun for me and my team had a great time running trough Gent in the morning sun. Without personal assistance, I would have been stuck at the first cobbled street. But thanks to my team, I was able to see parts of the city that would otherwise be inaccessible, I could go through historical buildings and on top of that, I participated in and finished the 11 km urban trail”.
