The 8th edition of the European Independent Living Day on the 5th May is around the corner, and, as we recently wrote, this year we decided to dedicate it to the idea of movement or mobility, in a broader way. With this, we hope that many people and organisations across Europe and beyond will be motivated to engage. The idea of movement/mobility can be approached from different angles (positive or negative experience etc), and leaves plenty of space for creativity and a big range of activities.

How can you join?

There are numerous ways for you to engage!

First option is for you to share with us your experiences, good and/or bad, when it comes to movement and mobility. You can share stories, photos, videos, funny or not moments, thoughts on how you imagine the future, and anything else you wish!

Second option is to join one of the three online events we are organising or co-organising:

► Future of Transport: Addressing the Barriers through Innovative Solutions with the TRIPS Project – Wednesday 5 May at 12:00 – 13:30 CEST

► The independent living day webinar, about the history and the future of our movement, that we are co-organising with our members ULOBA from Norway and the Independent Living Institute (ILI) from Stockholm  – Wednesday 5 May at 14:00 – 15:30 CEST

► Being Proud, Strong and Visible Everywhere – A Film Screening & Global Exchange with Independent Living Activists – Wednesday 5 May at 16:00 – 18:00 CEST

You can find more information about all of them, as well as the registration links, here.

And your third option is to celebrate the day and be active in any way you wish! We are already receiving messages from our members across Europe about some awesome activities they are preparing (for example this by the Independent Living Movement Ireland – ILMI, this by the Lithuanian Disability Forum, or this by the Centro de Vida Independente from Portugal), and we can’t wait to receive yours as well!

ENIL will be online the entire day on the 5th May, beginning with the press release, sharing your stories, photos and videos from around Europe and the world on our social media channels, as well with our events. We will be looking out for these hashtags: #ILDay2021 and #ThisIsHowWeMove, so no matter what you do don’t forget to use them, or tag us, so we can share them with everyone!

We are looking forward to seeing many of you celebrating the Independent Living Day with us! Should you have any questions, please email: kamil.goungor@enil.eu

Let’s raise awareness about Independent Living and to be proud, strong and visible together!
