4th March 2014, Dublin- The European Network on Independent Living (ENIL) is launching a new website www.stopdisabilitycuts.eu, developed in cooperation with the European Foundation Centre and the European Disability Forum. The website is part of the ENIL-led campaign “Stop Disability Cuts”, which seeks to raise awareness of the increased marginalisation disabled people face as a result of the austerity measures at national and European level. As part of the campaign, simultaneous actions will take place across Europe on the 5th May 2014, the European Independent Living Day.
The “Stop Disability Cuts” campaign aims to raise awareness of the barriers that disabled people in Europe face to being fully included in the community. It targets primarily the current and potential Members of the European Parliament in the run up to the elections in May 2014. Simultaneous actions will be taking place across Europe on or around the 5th May, with the new website providing details about how to get involved.
Importantly, www.stopdisabilitycuts.eu will offer a platform to share personal stories and experiences of how the economic crisis continues to impact the lives of disabled people in Europe and their rights – as outlined in the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
ENIL would like to invite all disabled people and supporters, disabled people’s organisations, other NGOs and Centers for Independent Living across Europe to join us in the “Stop Disability Cuts” campaign. If you would like to share your story or organise an event in your town, please contact us today (write to Esti Alvarez firstname.lastname@example.org). Please also help us spread the message about the campaign by sharing information through your networks. Thank you.
We hope you join ENIL on the 5th May in advocating for the rights of all disabled people in every country in Europe. Stop Disability Cuts NOW!
