ENIL’s “EU Funds for Our Rights” Campaign continues with awareness raising activities among Members of the European Parliament and the European Commission officials.
On 3rd July, we organised a webinar for everyone who could not join us at our regional events. It was an opportunity to find out what the European Structural and Investment Funds are, how they work, and how NGOs can engage with them. The webinar was based on ENIL’s experience in monitoring and advocating for the use of ESI Funds to support the transition from institutional care to community living. You can find the recording here.
On 7th July, we organised a meeting for the EU officials, in order to present and discuss our new briefing – the “European Union Structural and Investment Funds and the transition from institutional care to community living: Towards a more effective monitoring and complaints system”. Several representatives from the European Commission (DG EMPL and DG REGIO) and the UN OHCHR – Brussels Office attended the meeting, although the turn out was disappointing. Most members of the EU framework for the CRPD (European Parliament, European Ombudsman and EDF) were also invited, but did not attend.
During the meeting, we presented the Campaign, our concerns in relation to current use of ESI Funds (which were raised during the regional meetings) and ENIL’s new briefing. The aim of the discussion was to come up with proposals on how to ensure that ESI Funds are used in line with the CRPD and the EU Charter on Fundamental Rights, and more specifically – how to put in place a good monitoring and complaints system. The briefing is available here.
