Looking Ahead: Can the European Semester Deliver for Public Social Services?

Looking Ahead: Can the European Semester Deliver for Public Social Services?

ENIL informs you that the European Commission will soon publish 28 country reports assessing the economic, social and employment situation in its Member states. Recently the publication of the 2015 European Semester report “Looking ahead: priorities for the European Semester 2016” was published. You can find it here.

This is the result of the work carried out by the European Social Network and members from 22 countries throughout 2015, and which has concluded that:

  1. Financial sustainability can be ensured alongside the sustainability, quality and availability of public services
  2. Effective public social policies must include concepts such as social investment, social sustainability and (cost-)effectiveness
  3. Participation of local public social services is key to ensure the successful implementation of adequate social protection

This work aims to have challenges faced by public social services at the local level reflected in national and European policies.
