My name is Tjaša Kos, I live in an independent household in Ljubljana together with my partner and a 17 month old son.

What is your personal experience of disability?

Blindness.

How did you discover the Independent Living movement?

Actually I discovered it by coincidence. I first got information through word of mouth and then I decided to get in touch with YHD. They provided me with information on IL.

Is there an area of Independent Living that you are especially interested in?

I think that many fields are relevant to me. Regarding my profession I am mostly interested in the mental health of people with disabilities and their relatives.

 

Who has influenced you the most, and how?

Probably that would be Elena Pečarič with her positive and courageous personal example.

What personal achievement are you most proud of?

I am proud that I managed to finish University and obtain a degree and on giving birth to a healthy son.

Do you have a favourite saying or proverb?

In fact I don’t have any.

What advice would you give to young adults with a disability?

I would like to say that there is a great number of opportunities which start to appear in front of an individual when you start to search for them.
