Malta: 50 years of disability activism

The Malta Federation of Organisations Persons with Disability (MFOPD) is Malta’s national umbrella organisation, and a member of ENIL. It is a voluntary non-governmental organisation with 34 member organisations all working with and for persons with disabilities.

MFOPD was founded in 1970. In 2020, MFOPD had planned various commemorative events to celebrate its 50th anniversary, but these had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As such an anniversary was a must to be celebrated, MFOPD thought of working on a publication as a memento for the occasion. This publication was funded through the Small Initiative Support Scheme (SISS) managed by the Malta Council for Voluntary Sector (MCVS).

This 50th Anniversary publication is the bridge between the fifty years of MFOPD’s history, the present and the future – through its members stating what they want to see happen in the coming years. There are articles on different topics, including one submitted by ENIL on Personal Assistance.
