Should personal assistance for disabled people be codified in a separate national law? Should the users receive direct payments instead of support in kind? Should assistance be provided irrespective of the type and degree of impairment? Should there be a pre-defined list of tasks the assistants can do? Should assistance be provided irrespective of individual or family income? Should family members be allowed to work as assistants?
If you have answers to these and other similar questions about personal assistance, ENIL would like to hear from you. We invite you to review a comprehensive list of statements about personal assistance compiled by Teodor Mladenov, ENIL’s Marie Curie Research Fellow, as part of the project User-Led Personal Assistance in the European Union: A Critical Comparative Analysis.
We encourage you to contribute to this review even if, currently, there is no (genuine) personal assistance in your country or locality. We are interested in your vision about personal assistance in principle rather than in your assessment of any actually existing personal assistance scheme.
The results of the review will then be used to develop an assessment tool on personal assistance that will help establish the degree to which personal assistance schemes in different countries enable choice and control of their users. It will be made available to anyone advocating for personal assistance in Europe and beyond.
People with experience of personal assistance are particularly welcome to participate! More information about the project, the informed consent form, and the list of statements for review are available online here. If you prefer a paper version or have other question or concerns, please, send a message to Teodor Mladenov at: teodor.mladenov@enil.eu
Participation is strictly voluntary and will be kept anonymous. Responses will be collected until 28 February 2018 – afterwards, the online form will be closed.
Thank you – we look forward to receiving your responses!
