ENIL Volunteers join European Youth Week 2024 at the European Parliament

On 12 April, ENIL took part in the European Youth Week 2024 with an all-day stand at the European Parliament in Brussels. Two of our European Solidarity Corps (ESC) volunteers, Michael Brennan and Francesca Spanghero, together with ENIL staff member Vita Vaisnyte, represented ENIL and showcased our work on Independent Living and disability rights.

Throughout the day, our team met with young people from across Europe, sharing ENIL publications and engaging in lively discussions on independent living, ableism, activism, and the rights of disabled people. The event offered an excellent opportunity to raise awareness of disability rights and to highlight the crucial role of young people in shaping an inclusive society.

The European Youth Week is organised every two years by the European Commission to celebrate and promote youth engagement, participation and active citizenship. The 2024 edition, held from 12 to 19 April under the theme “Voice your vision,” focused on democracy and the upcoming European elections of 6–9 June 2024.

For ENIL and our ESC volunteers, it was a valuable chance to connect with other young Europeans, share our message, and demonstrate the importance of youth involvement in building a society where independent living is a right for all.
