Organised by the European Network on Independent Living, the Freedom Drive is one of the most important moments for the Independent Living Movement in Europe. Since 2003, it has brought together disabled people, activists, and allies to demand change, influence policy, and make our voices heard at the highest level.

In 2026, we return to Brussels.

📅 29 September – 1 October 2026

📍 Brussels

Over three days, the Freedom Drive will bring together participants from across Europe for:

  • Workshops and discussions
  • A conference on key Independent Living issues
  • A hearing in the European Parliament
  • Opportunities to meet and engage with Members of the European Parliament (MEPs)
  • And of course, a protest march on October 1rst

This year’s Freedom Drive is especially significant, marking 20 years since the adoption of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Our message is clear:
NO MORE EXCUSES – OUR TIME IS NOW!

Across Europe, disabled people are still denied the right to live independently. Policies are delayed. Promises remain unfulfilled. Funding continues to support segregation instead of inclusion.

This is the moment to come together, push back, and demand change.

Who should join?

  • Disabled people and Independent Living activists
  • Organisations of persons with disabilities (DPOs)
  • Allies and supporters
  • Policy-makers and decision-makers
  • Anyone committed to the right to Independent Living
