The Global Coalition on Deinstitutionalisation (GC-DI) has been running a webinar series entitled ‘From Words to Practice’, aiming to unpack different chapters of the Guidelines on deinstitutionalisation, including in Emergencies. As part of the webinar series, the European Network on Independent Living (ENIL) is organising a thematic session focusing on Chapters I – III of the Guidelines, under the heading ‘Key concepts, definitions and values underpinning the process of deinstitutionalisation’.
The webinar will take place on Thursday, 31 October, from 14:00 – 15:30 CET. (For other time zones, please check here.)
The webinar will discuss how Chapters I – III of the Guidelines on deinstitutionalisation should be translated into concrete deinstitutionalisation strategies and action plans. Download ENIL’s Explainer on the Guidelines on deinstitutionalisation, including in Emergencies here.
We will hear from speakers with different experiences of the deinstitutionalisation process – from survivors of institutionalisation, the CRPD Committee member involved in reviewing States Parties, persons with disabilities helping to get people out of institutions and those working with Governments on the closure of institutions and the development of deinstitutionalisation strategies.
The webinar aims to increase understanding of what is a CRPD compliant deinstitutionalisation process, highlight lessons learnt and actions to be avoided. The aim of the session is to focus as much as possible on the practical application of the Guidelines in different parts of the world. We invite you to join us and share with us your experience and questions.
Captioning and International sign language will be provided.
