a memorial for a pioneer of independent living

The European Network on Independent Living, the Independent Living Institute and Doro Riedel-Ratzka cordially invite you to an online memorial event for Dr. Adolf Ratzka, on 21 January 2025, from 17 :00 – 19 :00 CET.

This memorial event, which takes place 6 months after Adolf tragically passed away at the age of 80, will provide an opportunity for his friends and colleagues from around the world to remember him and reflect on his legacy.

Adolf was a pioneer of the Independent Living movement in Europe and successfully fought for self-determination for disabled people in Sweden, the country where he lived for most of his life. He inspired, mentored and supported other disabled people and their organisations in Europe and across the world, and challenged authorities and service providers. Adolf was one of the co-founders of ENIL 35 years ago.

The memorial will be opened by Jamie Bolling, from the Independent Living Institute and ENIL, after which anyone who wishes to share memories of Adolf will be able to do so.

If you would like to share your memories of Adolf, please let us know in the registration form for the meeting. You can register using this link. Based on who would like to speak, we will prepare a list and invite you to say something during the meeting.

If you are unable to join, but would like to share something in writing to be read out during the memorial, please send it to Jamie Bolling jamie.bolling@independentliving.org by 20 January 2025.

Join us for this event.
