Personal assistance in Turkey

Since the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the focus on promoting independent living and inclusion of people with disabilities has been constantly growing. Reflecting on the experience from Turkey and the EU, the event will look at the ways in which external funding can facilitate or hinder the development of independent living policies and practices. It will discuss the importance of pilot projects as a tool for domestic change and the key components a personal assistance project should have to be in line with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

The event is organised by ENIL in cooperation with the Association of Women with Disabilities (ENG-KAD) and will be hosted by MEP Nacho Sánchez Amor, from the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament. It is within the framework of the project Personal Assistance as a Key Tool for Independent Living and Social Inclusion of People with Disabilities (PAKT), supported financially by the EU, through the Civil Society Development – III programme.
