Recently, we hired two people to join our team in our Brussels office. We have a new Events and Office Coordinator and a new Human Rights Officer. Where do they come from, what made them join ENIL and what are their aspirations? This is what Aoife and Rita wanted to tell you about in the presentations below.
Aoife McGarry
Hi, I am Aoife. I am joining ENIL as the new Office and Events Coordinator. I moved to Brussels 5 months ago from Ireland. I have a background in International human rights law and many years of experience advocating for disability rights.
I studied in Maastricht University, the Netherlands and NUI Galway in Ireland. I am excited to bring my knowledge and personal experience working with and advocating for Disabled People and their families to ENIL. For me, ENIL fights for the fulfilment of the human right that informs disabled peoples’ ability to enjoy all other human rights, to live independently and play a meaningful role in the community of their choosing is.
Outside of work I enjoy swimming and Irish football for exercise. My prized possession is my kindle(e-reader), and I am known to be reading up to four books at a time.
Rita Crespo Fernandez
I am Rita, the new Human Rights Officer in ENIL. I am originally from Spain, now based in Brussels.
I have been working in disability rights and advocacy for almost 3 years, specifically on international development, rehabilitation, assistive technology, and inclusive education. Prior to this, I completed my undergraduate studies in Law and International Relations in Madrid, and obtained my master’s degree in International and European Human Rights Law in Paris.
I joined ENIL because I believe that Disabled People have the right to decide for themselves and to have equality of opportunities. As Human Rights Officer, I would like to advocate for Disabled People to live a full and independent life, for ending segregation, and for building an inclusive society.
When I am not working, you can find me doing improvisation theater or testing a new recipe.
With this article, we officially welcome Aoife and Rita to the team and encourage them for their upcoming tasks!
