The Youth Leadership Programme (YLP) involves recruiting 4 young disabled activists to spend a week with an organisation advocating for independent living and the rights of disabled people in another European country for 1 week each. Today, you’ll learn about the story of Ivana Jankovic who is from Montenegro and going to Budapest, Hungary.
YLP is co-funded by the European Union (CERV programme) and is part of ENIL’s core work.
I am Ivana Jankovic, born on February 10, 1995, in Cetinje. I completed my regular elementary and high school education there. I graduated from the Faculty of Law and am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Political Science. The topic of my master’s thesis is “The Effects of Double Discrimination Against Women with Disabilities (Based on Gender and Disability).”
As a person with a disability myself, I have been involved in the disability rights movement in Montenegro since my early youth. I strive to contribute fully to improving the status of people with disabilities in Montenegro, especially in the areas of independent living and women’s rights.
Through my involvement in various organizations, I noticed that there is not enough discussion about the issues faced by people with mental disabilities. This was one of the reasons I decided to join Validity, where my aim is to gain new knowledge about integrating this population into the social life of the community. Since the organization is recently established, I hope to share my expertise in human rights and contribute to its work.
