Only one month left to our biggest event of the year, the ENIL Freedom Drive 2019! It might be vacations period for most, but here at ENIL we are working in full mode, in order to prepare everything by the 1st of October and be ready to welcome you in Brussels! In this month’s update, you can read about the World Independent Living Centers Network (WIN) meeting, as well as some other important updates.

Meeting of the World Independent Living Centers Network (WIN)

The WIN meeting will take place on the last day of the Freedom Drive, on 3rd October, after the General Assembly. The meeting is organised by the Japanese Independent Living Center (JIL) and ENIL, in cooperation with Charlotte Vuyiswa McClain-Nhlapo, Global Disability Advisor at the World Bank.

The objective of the meeting is to present WIN to the Freedom Drivers, to discuss ways to promote Independent Living globally, and to hear of inspiring practices and challenges from a selected number of countries. Importantly, there will be discussion at the meeting about what role WIN should play and how CILs in Europe can get involved in its work.

The WIN meeting will take place at Mundo J, Rue de l’Industrie 10, from 18.15 – 20.15. It will be moderated by Nadia Hadad, and we will welcome fellow activists from Japan, and Charlotte Vuyiswa McClain-Nhlapo from the World Bank.

You can download the draft agenda from here. Due to limited size of the room, ENIL send those who registered for the meeting (during registration) a confirmation e-mail.

Important updates

We wish to inform you that due to many messages we received and also taking into consideration summer holidays, we decided to extend the registration deadline until September 13th. As always, we encourage you to not leave it for the last moment, and register as soon as possible. Here you can find all the important information.

For those coming with more than one Personal Assistant (PAs), please make sure you fill in the form for all your assistants. This is needed primarily to ensure that we have their details for security passes for buildings where different events will be held.

On Tuesday 20 August, we sent all our members a notice of ENIL’s General Assembly, as well as the ENIL Youth Network General Assembly documents. In case you are a member and haven’t received the e-mail, please contact Kamil Goungor, our Development Officer and contact point for the Freedom Drive at: kamil.goungor@enil.eu. Please check your spam folder beforehand.

Finally, we have had to change the venues for the WIN meeting and the ENIL Youth Network General Assembly. The Youth Network General Assembly will take place on the 3rd October, between 18:00 – 20:00, in the Kamilou café (in the Mundo-J building). WIN meeting will also take place in Mundo J, in the large meeting room on the ground floor. Mundo J is within a 20-minute walking distance from the Charlemagne Building.

Finally, if you are coming as part of a delegation, we would encourage you to nominate 1-2 representatives to register the whole group on 1st October (10:00 – 18:00) and collect the materials and the T-shirts. This will speed up the process of the registration and save us a lot of time, as we are expecting many people.

Call for volunteers – Reminder

Finally, we wish to remind you about our call for volunteers during the Freedom Drive week. If you are based in Brussels and you are interested in helping out during the event, please contact Kamil Goungor.
