Mirko Tomassoni is a human rights and Independent Living activist, founder and president of the association Attiva-Mente, based in San Marino, which is committed to promoting inclusion, accessibility, and self-determination for persons with disabilities. Following a motorcycle accident that resulted in a disability, he transformed his personal experience into civic and institutional engagement.

He served for four consecutive terms as a member of the Great and General Council, the Parliament of the Republic of San Marino, and was elected twice as Captain Regent (Head of State), becoming the first person with a disability to hold this position in the history of the country. Internationally, he represented San Marino in the Inter-Parliamentary Union, where he also served as president of the national delegation.

Alongside his work with the Civil Police of San Marino, he has collaborated with several international organizations.

Since the end of 2023, he has been a member of the Board of ENIL – European Network on Independent Living, where he is committed to strengthening and expanding the model of personal assistance, particularly in small states and in contexts where Independent Living is still denied or poorly understood, promoting a structural change led by persons with disabilities themselves.
