How can we ensure Independent Living has a future?
Independent Living Days are a cause of celebration but also for concern. While Independent Living as a slogan has received increased recognition, there is not much progress in practice. Together we want to reflect on what can be done to ensure Independent Living has a future.
To mark this important day, we would like to invite you to the following events:
- Independent Living reception
Film screening, followed by discussion with disability activists, representatives from the European Commission, national governments and the UN Brussels Office.

Our event will begin with the screening of the documentary “Struggle to have a life – Disability Politics in Sweden”, filmed by director Caroline Ardbo, on the situation of personal assistance in Sweden. Subsequently, speakers will reflect on the docu-mentary and what we can do to promote independent living and personal assistance.
2. Join the protest
Joins us to demonstrate against the abolishment of the personal assistance budget by the Brussels region!

ENIL members have founded the collective BAP.Brussels, to protest the abol-ishing of personal assistance in the region. From 14:00 hrs, a demonstration organised by BAP will take place in front of the Parliament of the Brussels region. We will join and are calling on you to do the same.
