With less than one year until the 2019 Freedom Drive, ENIL is working hard on getting everything ready for the big event. The final dates are 1st – 3rd October 2019, so please mark these in your calendars, if you haven’t already.

Freedom Drive schedule

We are pleased to confirm that we will have a number of events organised during the week, based on the following schedule:

1st October: We will be holding four workshops during the day at Mundo J, on topics of interest to Independent Living advocates. You will also be able to pick up your registration pack.

2nd October: We will start the day with a protest march and continue with a meeting in the European Parliament. Some of you may want to meet with your MEPs during the day as well. In the evening, we will celebrate ENIL’s 30th birthday with a big party!

3rd October: We are happy to announce that the European Commission has given us permission to use the Charlemagne building at Schumann for our conference and the General Assembly. After the General Assembly, we will meet in regional groups to plan how we can work more together.

We expect Freedom Drivers to arrive on the 30 September and to depart on the 4th October. If you are standing for the Board, please note that the new Board will meet on the 4th. ENIL Youth Network will also meet during the week.

National coordinators wanted

Being a Freedom Drive coordinator in a country (or a region in some cases) is a voluntary role, but highly important for each Freedom Drive. Our goal is to celebrate our 30th birthday together with as many of you as possible, and for that, we need your help!

National coordinators act as Freedom Drive ambassadors in their countries, helping us spread the word to as many people as possible. In addition, they are in charge of coordinating the national delegations and supporting them in planning their participation in the Freedom Drive – from all the communication with ENIL, to providing information, helping with fundraising, travel and accommodation etc.

There can be one coordinator in a country or more – depending on the size of the delegation and how many people are interested in taking on this role. Whatever the case, having a national coordinator is crucial for active and smooth participation in the Freedom Drive. Therefore, we strongly encourage you to come forward and help us organise a great 2019 Freedom Drive. You can count on ENIL for any information or advice you may need during the coming months.

Kamil Goungor, our new Development Officer and a contact point for all the Freedom Drive coordinators, is drafting a list with the potential coordinators (starting with those involved in the previous Freedom Drives). If you are interested in this role, please contact Kamil at kamil.goungor@enil.eu. Please write your full name, country, organization and (optionally) ideas about the sessions you would like to see on the Freedom Drive agenda. In case you are interested in running a session, let us know as well!

Even if you do not want to be a coordinator, do not hesitate to spread this article among your networks, especially if you know someone that you believe would be interested. You can also send his/her contact details to Kamil and he will approach them directly.
