Participation in European projects
ENIL Youth promotes independent living in youth-related projects
MapAbility
In 2014, ENIL was officially invited to be a partner organisation of the Erasmus
Student Network (ESN) on its project about student mobility ‘MapAbility’. MapAbility’s
primary aim was to conduct extensive research into the accessibility level of Higher
Education Institutions in Europe. With this new online map, ESN is using MapAbility
data to provide disabled students with an exclusive guide to accessibility in
European Universities. ENIL members from the Youth Network were giving their
advice and tips in creating this guide throughout 2014.
In addition Zara Todd,
independent living activist and one of the founders of ENIL Youth Network, gave a
presentation at a conference in Belgium where she shared her valuable experience
as a student with mobility difficulties, who is currently a PhD candidate. On the 28th
August the MapAbility platform was launched.
Representation
ENIL Youth represents interests of young disabled people in different bodies and at European-level meetings and events
The Advisory Council on Youth is the non-governmental partner in the co- management structure which establishes the standards and work priorities of the Council of Europe’s youth sector and makes recommendations for future priorities, programmes and budgets. It is made up of 30 representatives from youth NGOs and networks in Europe and its main task is to advise the Committee of Ministers on all questions relating to youth.

The European Disability Forum (EDF) is an umbrella organisation of disabled people, bringing together representative organisations of disabled people from across Europe, and advocating for the rights of more than 100 million disabled Europeans. ENIL is an active member of EDF, being represented on its board and various committees. One of them is the EDF Youth Committee, which is the voice of young disabled people inside EDF, ensuring that EDF’s work takes into account the perspective of disabled youngsters.
