Beyza Ünal and Charlie Willis, both of whom served in the same youth board,
participated in the “Training Course for Facilitators of Study Sessions Held by Youth
Organisations in Cooperation with European Youth Centres”, which was organised
by Council of Europe’s Youth Department. The training course took place in
European Youth Centre Budapest, Hungary, between 1-6 October 2018 with the aim
of supporting participants to increase their knowledge, awareness, skills, and
motivation regarding acting as facilitators in intercultural non-formal education
activities.
Throughout the week, 32 youth workers from different countries worked together to
have a better understanding on the essentials of developing, implementing, and
evaluating intercultural non-formal education activities. The training mainly focused
on experiential learning, non-formality, team work, designing program, facilitating,
debriefing, and inclusion for all. As participants, Beyza Ünal and Charlie Willis had
important contributions on the content regarding the inclusion of disabled youth in
educational activities. Moreover, On October 5th, Agnes Sarolta Fazekas, another ex
board member of ENIL Youth Network and member of the Advisory Council on
Youth of the Council of Europe 2016-2017, was invited to make a presentation about
her experiences of designing a mixed-ability study session, which mainly
emphasized the importance of getting prepared for the access needs of participants
in advance in order to ensure the full participation of disabled youth in educational
activities.
