On 6th March 2024, at 1pm CET, the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and ENIL will co-host a webinar on “Personal Assistance Globally: Where are we, where do we go?”.
This webinar will launch our new ILO-ENIL Report “Towards Dignity and Autonomy: A Comprehensive Look at Personal Assistance Policies for Persons with Disabilities Worldwide” (a link to the report and an advocacy factsheet will soon be available).
The International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the European Network on Independent Living (ENIL) have produced a report and factsheet on personal assistance services worldwide, looking at differences in provision and working conditions of personal assistants. These documents explain how differences in the organisation of services impact access, and the potential of personal assistance to improve the enjoyment of rights by Disabled People.
This webinar will launch the report and factsheet, and will support its dissemination, aiming to highlight its key findings and recommendations. The webinar will raise awareness about personal assistance, as a form of support that is a key tool for independent living of Disabled People, and a replacement of the care model where the person with disabilities lacks control over how, where and by whom the support is provided.
The webinar will bring together the perspectives of policymakers, users, service providers and experts. Speakers include Lilia Angelova and Nadia Hadad, from ENIL, Amalia Gamio, member of the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Naoki Okamoto, board member of the Japan Council on Independent Living Centers and personal assistance user, and Jamie Bolling, director of the Independent Living Institute in Stockholm and ENIL’s co-Chair. The webinar will be moderated by Stefan Tromel, ILO Senior Disability Specialist.
Captioning in English will be provided.
